A measuring aid, not a legal survey
Polam is a tool to measure land and keep a record of it on your phone. It is not a legal survey and does not replace a licensed surveyor. For registration, sale, division, a loan or a court case, the figures in your documents and in the government’s land records apply.
Not a government app
Polam is not a government app and is not affiliated with any government body or department. It does not show or change land records.
GPS has limits
A phone’s GPS position is usually off by a few metres, and by more under trees, near buildings or walls. The app shows a ± band with every GPS answer, but the real area can still fall outside it. A boundary traced while walking gets an approximate band.
Satellite pictures can be old
Google’s satellite pictures can be months or years old, and can be shifted by a few metres. A plot drawn on the map is only as good as the picture.
Local units differ
An ankanam is 72 sq ft in some places and 36 sq ft in others, and a length in links depends on the chain your record used. Check which one your documents use. The app shows the size it used next to every answer.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for how you use the figures and for following the laws that apply to you. Before you buy, sell or divide land, ask a licensed surveyor or the revenue office.
Accuracy
Every unit conversion and calculation in the app is tested against the unit definitions and against conversions recorded in High Court judgments. Even so, we cannot promise that the app is free of mistakes. If you find a mistake, please tell us.
